The Young School aims to inspire a lifelong love of learning by providing a thoughtful, nurturing environment for children that fosters creativity, independence and social confidence in a dynamic, joyful setting that is respectful of each child’s needs and individuality. For over 28 years, the Young School has prepared young people for their future though an innovative preschool education program. The Young School pioneered the “Cottage” learning environment for infants (8wks – 2yrs) through Pre-K (2-5 yrs). Children are welcomed into a cottage community where they are respected as individuals who naturally yearn to create relationships with others. Teachers nurture and support this social/emotional development by helping each child communicate his feelings and thoughts clearly. Each unique preschool cottage offers preschoolers TWO large rooms filled with opportunities to explore and learn, and a Cottage Director to support the teachers and children throughout the day! Our school is inspired by Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) and Reggio Emilia, two internationally acclaimed approaches to early childhood education.
